809EX: Single Channel - Standard Range

The Alarm Electronics Model 809 receiver is designed for use with any Smart-Wave™ transmitter and with the model 601A multi-channel decoder. The receiver may be operated from a 10 to 16 volt DC power source. If AC operation is desired a plug-in 12 volt DC power supply may be used. Current requirement is approximately 10 ma in the stand-by mode and 35 ma when activated. The output is a form C relay (normally open and normally closed) for connection to either N/O or N/C alarm inputs. An auxillary DATA OUT from the receiver may be connected to one or more model 601A multichannel decoders for additional zones as required for individual applications. The Model 809 receiver stores the transmitter key codes in an internal memory cell and will retain the memory even when power is removed for 10 years or more. Up to 60 different key codes can be stored in memory allowing the Model 809 to be activated by any one of 60 transmitters with different key codes.

Installation

The 809 is equipped with a 6 pin connector for easy connection and disconnect and is supplied with connector and cable.

The wiring connections are as follows:
Color Description
Black Ground
White Relay N/O Contact
Green Relay Common
Orange Relay N/C Contact
Blue Data Signal Output
Red Power (+) 12-18 Volts DC

The relay contacts are rated at 1 amp maximum at 30 volts DC. Open field range has been tested to be from 200 to 500 feet to the point where reception ceases to be reliable. Any factor which can interfere with radio frequency reception may affect the range at which the receiver can reliably detect and decode the transmitter signal. These systems are tried and proven and although environmental noise will not cause false alarms noisy power supply systems and building structure are the most common problems which result in reduced range. When using the system for emergency or similar applications a fairly complete area coverage may be required. Some buildings with substantial metal structure and very noisy power systems may reduce the usable range to 75 feet or less and require additional receivers around the area to obtain desired coverage. Foil wallpaper, plaster or stucco with metal reinforcing, metal reinforced block walls and floors and automobiles are all examples of structures which will give substantial obstruction to radio transmission and reduce range.

Care should be taken at installation to locate the receiver central to the area to be protected and away from metal objects or structures and away from electrical appliances and fixtures.

Matching Transmitters to the Receiver

The Model 809 receiver stores the transmitter key codes in an internal memory cell. The receiver will not respond to any transmitter which does not have the code stored in the receiver memory. The Model 809 can store in memory up to 60 different transmitter key codes. There are two methods to add a transmitter key code to the receiver memory. Both methods are simple and easy.

Two methods to add a transmitter key code to the receiver memory.
  1. The first method is to remove the small plastic cap on the top of the receiver - you will see a small push button switch. Using the eraser end of a pencil or similar non metalic object, depress the push button switch in the receiver at the same time that you activate the transmitter you wish to add. When the receiver activates, the new code for that transmitter has been added to memory.
  2. The second method is to connect the blue wire to the +12 volt supply and at the same time activate the transmitter you wish to add. When the receiver activates, the new code for that transmitter has been added to memory. The blue wire cannot be used for this function if it is connected to a single channel or multi-channel decoder.

To Clear the Memory

Holding the push button down or connecting the blue wire to the red (+12 volts) AT THE SAME TIME POWER IS TURNED FROM OFF to ON will erase the memory contents.

Remote Loading

If the blue wire is not used with a single or multi-channel decoder it may be connected to a remote location (from an attic to the control panel for instance) such that the loading of transmitter codes can be done from a convenient location. In such cases the blue wire should be connected to ground (-) when not used.

Compatible with all Smart-Wave Transmitters
